Cybersecurity in SMEs - Recent Cyberthreats and a New Concept of Prevention

Abstract:

The daily headlines about cyberattacks in industry illustrate the urgency of the issue. The risk of becoming vulnerable is increasing due to ongoing digitalization in SMEs. Since 2022, the applied science project "CyberWuP" at Aalen University has been working on the establishment of an awareness-raising concept for SMEs. The studies conducted as part of the concept demonstrate the particular need for a sustainable awareness program for SMEs. A program for raising awareness among SMEs was further specified in expert workshops. Following the pilot phase, it is currently being integrated into the range of services offered by the chambers of industry and commerce in Southwest of Germany. The keynote presentation will present results of empirical studies on the recent cyberthreat situation in SME and provides insights into preventive activities developed as part of the project "CyberWuP".
